Drinking Mood

Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. Learn how Drinking Mood protects your data by not collecting any.

About Drinking Mood

Drinking Mood is an offline mobile application designed to help individuals make safer choices when consuming alcohol. It offers two modes – Casual Mode and Serious Mode – that allow users to limit their access to certain apps and perform sobriety checks while drinking. Our aim is to support people struggling with alcohol habits by promoting awareness and encouraging healthy social interaction. We value your privacy and have designed Drinking Mood to function without collecting personal data from you. This Privacy Policy explains clearly how our app works and how it handles your information in compliance with Google Play requirements.

Key Features:

  • Casual Mode: Lets you choose a list of apps (e.g. social media, banking, chat apps) that you want to block while drinking. Once Casual Mode is activated, if you attempt to open any app on your blocked list, Drinking Mood will intervene by notifying you that the app is restricted. This gentle reminder helps prevent potentially harmful or regrettable app usage when you are under the influence.
  • Serious Mode: Intended for heavier drinking situations, this mode requires you to pass a simple typing game or test to prove you are sober enough before accessing your device or certain apps. If you're unable to complete the typing challenge, the app assumes you may be intoxicated and continues to restrict access for your safety.
  • Customizable Block Lists: You have full control over which apps are blocked in both Casual and Serious modes. You can add or remove apps from your block list at any time to suit your needs. This list is stored locally on your device and can be adjusted in the app's settings.
  • Motivational Messages: The app displays helpful quotes and messages to raise awareness about the dangers of frequent drinking and to encourage you not to drink alone. These friendly reminders aim to promote moderation and social connection.
  • Offline Functionality: Drinking Mood is fully offline. All features of the app work without an internet connection, ensuring that your usage data never leaves your device.

Personal Data Collection

No Personal Data Collected

We do not collect or ask for any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, phone number, age, or location. In fact, Drinking Mood does not collect any user data that could identify you. There is no account signup or profile within the app, so you remain completely anonymous to us.

No Usage Tracking

The app does not track your activities or usage habits beyond the immediate functionality it provides. For example, Drinking Mood will know when you attempt to open an app on your block list (so it can show a restriction notification), but this information is only used in real-time on your device and is not logged or sent to us. We do not record, store, or transmit any details about which apps you block or when you use them. Similarly, if you play the typing game in Serious Mode, your performance or "sobriety test" results are not saved or transmitted; they are only used instantly to determine access at that moment.

Local Device Data

All data related to your preferences and settings (such as your blocked app list or mode settings) is stored locally on your device. This data remains on your phone and is not shared with us or anyone else. We do not have access to this information. Because the app is offline, nothing is uploaded to any server. Even the motivational quotes are built into the app and displayed without any online fetch. In short, what happens in Drinking Mood stays on your device.

Device Permissions and Local Processing

Drinking Mood may request certain permissions on your device solely to enable its core features, but granting these permissions does not mean we are collecting data. For example, the app might need access to your list of installed applications or usage stats in order to allow you to select apps to block and to detect when a blocked app is being opened. Any such permission is used strictly for providing the functionality described (i.e., to monitor and prevent access to chosen apps or to overlay the sobriety test). No information obtained through these permissions is ever transmitted off your device or used for any purpose other than the feature itself. The app's use of these permissions is entirely local:

  • If Drinking Mood uses an accessibility service or usage access, it is only to detect when you launch a blocked app so it can show the restriction message. This happens in real-time and nothing is stored or sent out.
  • If the app queries your installed apps (on newer Android versions, this may require the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission or a similar capability), it uses that information only to present you with the list of apps from which you can choose your block list. We understand that your list of installed apps can be sensitive personal data, so we treat it with care: the list is not sent anywhere and not stored by us. It's simply displayed to you within the app and remembered locally if you select apps to block.

By keeping all permission-related data processing on-device, we ensure your sensitive information remains private. You can choose to grant or deny these permissions, but note that denying required permissions may disable certain features (for instance, we cannot block apps if we cannot detect that they are being opened). Regardless, refusing a permission will not result in any data being collected by us – it will just limit the app's functionality.

Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

No Third-Party Services

Drinking Mood does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Facebook SDK, or any similar service in our app. There are no third-party ads displayed in the app, and we do not employ any trackers. Because of this, your usage of the app is not being analyzed or profiled by us or any third-party companies.

No Data Sharing

We do not share any personal data or any user information with third parties. Since we do not collect data in the first place, there is nothing to share or sell. We have no partnerships with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers that would require exchanging your data. Your app preferences and usage remain completely private.

The only external party involved in your use of Drinking Mood is the platform through which you obtained the app (for example, Google Play). We do not send any information to Google or any other platform from within the app. However, please note that simply by downloading or installing an app from an app store, some basic information may be collected by that app store platform itself (such as download statistics, or your account info as part of the store's normal operations). This is outside of our app's control and not initiated by Drinking Mood. We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy for the Play Store to understand how Google handles such data. Aside from this platform-level data, Drinking Mood shares nothing about you or your usage with anyone.

No Account or Authentication Required

You do not need to create any account or provide any login credentials to use Drinking Mood. The app does not have a registration or sign-in process. We will never ask you for a username, password, or any personal details to access the features. All functions are available immediately upon installing the app.

Because there is no user account, there is also no authentication or verification of identity involved. You will not be asked to link the app to any social media or provide an email/phone number. This means:

  • No Profile: There is no user profile or account information stored either on your device or on our servers (we have no servers for this app).
  • No Credentials: You won't need to remember any passwords or login information for Drinking Mood, since none is required.
  • Guest Usage: Every user operates the app as a guest. Each time you use Drinking Mood, it functions independently without referencing any stored personal account.

This approach helps protect your privacy because we simply have no personal information about you at all. You can use the app anonymously and with peace of mind.

Offline Usage

Drinking Mood is designed to run entirely offline. The app does not require an internet connection for any of its features to work. From setting your blocked apps in Casual Mode to performing the typing test in Serious Mode, all these actions occur without any online communication.

Because the app is offline:

  • No Data Transmission: The app does not send any data to remote servers or cloud services. Your information (such as which apps you've blocked or how you performed on a test) never leaves your device.
  • No Remote Storage: We do not store any data on our end. There is no cloud backup or online account associated with Drinking Mood. Everything is stored locally on your phone only.
  • Use Anytime, Anywhere: You can use Drinking Mood in any environment (even in airplane mode or with no network coverage) since it doesn't need to connect to the internet. The functionality remains fully available globally without internet access.
  • Updates: The only time you would use the internet with respect to this app is when downloading or updating the app itself from the app store. After installation, Drinking Mood does not use internet data at all.

Offline functionality greatly enhances your privacy and security. By not connecting to any server, we eliminate the risk of your data being intercepted or misused online. You don't have to worry about network security because the app simply isn't transmitting anything.

International Use and Global Compliance

We welcome users from all around the world to use Drinking Mood. Our commitment to user privacy is universal and does not change based on your country or region. Because we do not collect or transmit personal data, the app inherently complies with the privacy requirements of major international regulations such as the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws in other jurisdictions. Here's how our approach aligns with global privacy principles:

  • No Cross-Border Data Transfers: Since no personal information is collected or stored in the cloud, there are no international data transfers. All your app data stays on the device in your possession. You don't need to worry about your information being sent to servers in another country because we have no servers at all.
  • Data Minimization: Privacy laws often emphasize collecting only the minimum data necessary. We take this a step further by collecting no data at all. This design protects everyone's privacy, whether you're in Asia, Europe, the Americas, or anywhere else.
  • User Rights: Regulations like GDPR grant users rights over their personal data (access, correction, deletion, etc.). With Drinking Mood, there's no personal data held by us, so essentially there's nothing you need to request from us in terms of data access or deletion. You already have full control over the small amount of data (like settings) that exists on your own device.
  • Age Restrictions and Local Laws: We understand that laws about alcohol and app usage vary by country. While our app does not collect age or location, it is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their respective countries. We do not knowingly target or provide services to users in places where using an app like this would violate local laws.

By using the app in any region, you consent to this Privacy Policy. If you are using Drinking Mood from a region that has specific privacy requirements, know that our no-data-collected approach is meant to ensure compliance and protect your rights universally. If you have any concerns about local privacy laws and how Drinking Mood fits in, feel free to contact us with questions.

Data Retention and Deletion

Data Retention

Because we do not collect personal data, we do not retain any personal data on our end. We have no databases or servers storing user information. The only data related to Drinking Mood exists locally on your device (such as your list of blocked apps and mode settings). This local data remains as long as you have the app installed or until you clear the app's data from your device. We do not have access to or control over that data.

Data Deletion

Since the app doesn't hold any of your personal data on our systems, there is no need for a complicated deletion request process. If you wish to erase any information associated with Drinking Mood, you can do so directly by removing the data from your device:

  • Clearing App Data: You can clear Drinking Mood's app data in your device settings, which will reset the app to its default state. This will delete your blocked app list and any preferences you set, because all of that is stored on your device.
  • Uninstalling the App: If you uninstall Drinking Mood, all app-related data on your device is also deleted as part of the uninstall process. After uninstalling, no information related to the app will remain on your phone.
  • Reinstalling or Updates: If you ever reinstall the app or install an update, the app will start fresh. Since we don't have any cloud backup, your previous settings (if any) would be gone unless you had backed up your entire device.

Because everything is under your control on your own device, you effectively have the power to delete any app-related data at any time. There's no need to contact us to delete data stored on servers (again, we have none). If you have any trouble removing data or have questions about how to do so, you can reach out to us for guidance, but in general you have full autonomy over your data through your device settings.

Data Security

We take your privacy and data security seriously. The very design of Drinking Mood – being offline and not collecting data – is intended to safeguard your information. Here are the ways we protect your data and ensure security:

  • No External Breach Risk: Since the app does not send any data to a server, there is no risk of your personal data being intercepted in transit or hacked from a server storage – because we simply don't transmit or store anything externally. By eliminating data collection, we eliminate the primary security risks associated with personal information.
  • Local Data Protection: Any information that Drinking Mood uses (like your blocked apps list) stays on your device, which means it's protected by the security of your device. We encourage you to keep your smartphone secure (use a strong passcode, biometric lock, etc.) because any app's data on your phone is as secure as your device is.
  • Secure Permissions Use: If the app uses any special permissions (such as accessibility or usage access), it does so in a manner consistent with Android's security model. We only request the minimum permissions needed and only when needed. You will see permission prompts and can make informed decisions.
  • No Login, No Passwords: Because there's no account system, you don't have to worry about account security, password leaks, or authentication vulnerabilities in our app. There's no risk of someone hacking our servers to get your data, since we have no servers holding personal data.
  • Regular Updates: We will update Drinking Mood as needed to address any potential security issues or to comply with changes in platform policies. We recommend keeping the app updated to the latest version for any improvements and fixes.

Overall, using Drinking Mood is very safe from a data security perspective. By minimizing data collection and keeping everything offline, we protect you from the most common security risks. If you have any specific questions about security or find a potential vulnerability in the app, please contact us so we can address it promptly.

Children's Privacy

Drinking Mood is not intended for use by children. The content and purpose of the app are related to alcohol consumption, and it is designed for adults of legal drinking age (which varies by country, but typically 18+ or 21+). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13, and we strongly discourage minors from using this app.

  • No Data on Minors: As stated, we don't collect personal data from any users, including children. If a minor were to use the app, we would have no way of identifying them or obtaining their information, which is by design for privacy.
  • Parental Supervision: If you are a parent or guardian and you become aware that your child is using Drinking Mood and you have concerns, please contact us. Although we won't have any of the child's data (since we collect nothing), we can provide information on how to uninstall the app or further prevent access if needed.
  • Compliance with Child Privacy Laws: Since we do not collect data, we comply with regulations like COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act in the U.S.) by default – we do not collect, use, or share personal data from children under 13. We also reiterate that the app's subject matter (alcohol use) is not appropriate for children, and we do not market or tailor the app to minors in any way.

If you are under the legal drinking age or under 13, please do not use Drinking Mood. If we somehow discover that a user under these age thresholds is using the app and we had any ability to remove their data, we would do so – but again, we designed the app specifically to avoid data collection altogether.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes could occur due to new features, changes in legal requirements, or improvements in how we further protect your privacy. However, given our current approach of not collecting data, significant changes to our data practices are unlikely. If we do make changes, here is how we will handle them:

  • Notification of Changes: We will update the Privacy Policy text accordingly and change the "Last updated" date. For minor changes or clarifications, we may simply update the policy document. For any significant changes in how we handle data (for instance, if in the future we introduce a feature that needs internet or collects some data), we will provide a clear notice to users. This could be done via an in-app notification or via the Google Play store listing, so you are aware before continuing to use the app.
  • Reviewing Updates: We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy whenever you get an app update or at your discretion, to stay informed about how we protect your information. Since the app is offline, you will need to check the policy on our Google Play listing or any official website if provided. We will ensure the latest policy is always accessible.
  • Consent to Changes: By continuing to use Drinking Mood after any Privacy Policy updates take effect, you agree to the revised policy. If you do not agree with any changes, you should discontinue use of the app and can uninstall it, as your continued usage is considered acceptance of the terms. Remember, if the app remains offline and without data collection, your privacy will continue to be preserved as described.
